Homework week 1

Write a 300 word report on your blog on the construction of Genre and use of Mise-en-scene in any of the clips below (include any camera shots or angles you think are significant)

The clip I will be talking about it is the new trailer to the new James Bond film called Spectre. In the opening scene of this piece, a high angle shot is used from the sky, I think this is used to first of all to give us the location of where this is shot. There are things in this trailer that suggest that this film is an action movie, so therefore when I see things like guns, explosions etc I almost kind of know what this film is about. There is also a scene in the trailer where low lighting is used along with a high angle shot when James Bond discovers who his enemy is but also because the dark lighting creates suspense and mystery but at the same time a high angle shot this time is used to show the vulnerability of this character at this point in time. While speaking about the main character, other than the fact that we all watch James Bond movies and we know who the main character in the film is, some of the close ups during the trailer especially during the beginning are a close of James Bond so therefore this helps the audience or any media student to establish who the main character is.  Some of the shots are quite static; this means that the camera doesn’t move with the character but when the camera does start moving are the times when the main character is either running or walking and this is done on purpose to make the audience feel as though they are running with the character. An over the shoulder shot is also used during this trailer when the main character is speaking to a woman and this shot is effective because it shows that the main character is in authority and also shows who is more important. In conclusion to my essay, I have also established that the narrative of this piece is a Non Linear narrative because it doesn’t have a standard beginning middle and end and it left me almost baffled at the end of the trailer but I think this is effective because if it is a trailer there should be something that will make you want to go and watch it when it comes out.
